What made me write was the death of my mother! I had so many emotions pinned up that I felt I was in it alone and no one could understand. I took out my journal and the words bled onto the pages. Flooded by tears I went through not just grieving her, I went back to my childhood and memories that I had hid in the back of my mind came forth. I grieved a part of myself that I left in Connecticut, I grieved relationships that were gone, and I grieved a job that was my life. I wrote so much until my family begged me to stopped. I was drowning in my grief and I needed to come back. It was through the ministers at my church that prayed for me, called me,  on occasion had me to come out of the house and talk. Talking through my feeling that I had lost my mother on my watch! I had prepared all appointments, I had taken her to the doctors, and yet I was caught off guard. She had Alzheimer's, I remember the doctor saying if she wants cheesecake let her have it, ...

My Purpose

My Purpose As a young girl you play with dolls You are the Momma and your dolls your children You have crushes on the little boy next to you You put a pillow under your top and play like you’re having a baby As you mature you have boyfriends Some go to proms Some have arranged marriages Some have relationships where the man does propose You marry The pressure is on for when you are going to have children Is that your purpose to be a wife and a mother? Some never want to have children Some find themselves in situations where they have children and give up the right As a woman you have to compete in a man's world, still be the sexy wife, and mother. What about the woman who isn't married Does society dictate what her purpose should be? What Brings You Joy?

When I was a youngster I was always drawing pictures of models, sewing by hand or sewing machine and writing poetry. It was what excited me into knowing at a young age I had the creative bug. I was always looking for courses for sewing, altering clothing that needed another life, and even took up needlepoint because I loved the designs. My mother one day took an interest in my drawings and showed me how she would draw it and it was then I realized that I got it from her. She loved to draw and wanted to sew but didn’t have time because she had six children to raise. Her love for fashion had me subscribing to fashion magazines, ordering clothes and shoes, and sewing. I loved it so much that I changed from college prep in high school to business so that I could get my first job in a department store; I completed a school project on owning a shoe store, and enrolled in a modeling school.  While in college I changed my major from business administration to Fashi...
