Navigating Christmas Through Grief: Finding Light in the Shadows

Image
The holiday season can feel overwhelming when you're grieving. The twinkling lights, cheerful carols, and festive gatherings that once brought joy might now feel like painful reminders of who's missing from your celebration. But I want you to know something important: your grief is valid, and there's no "right" way to experience Christmas during loss. Here are some gentle strategies to help you navigate this season: 1. Acknowledge Your Feelings Your emotions are real and important. Some moments you might feel sad, others angry, and sometimes unexpectedly peaceful. Allow yourself to feel without judgment. Grief isn't linear, and Christmas won't magically erase your pain. 2. Create New Traditions While honoring past memories, consider creating new rituals that feel meaningful. This might mean: - Lighting a memorial candle - Sharing stories about your loved one - Doing an activity they enjoyed - Making a photo album or memory box 3. Set Boundaries It's ok...

I'm Back

Greetings Everyone! I know it has been some time since I posted on my blog. I never tthought the pandemic had an impact on  on me but it did. I had no desire to pick up my laptop and let my words flow. The very thing I had as my mantra was "Letting the words flow until the pen stops". I felt those words would be my last if I inherited  Alzheimer's not that I didn't have the desire anymore.  At the beginning of the pandemic when everything shut down for what was supposed to be two weeks  was two years. I was excited at the beginning of 2020 because I had released a new book and was going to travel to promote it and was looking forward to sharing my words. Instead, I had to look for various ways  to stay in front of the wave. I was doing zoom meetings where I did readings, I did workshops on "How  to Publish a Book", and I still felt missing. Four Seasons of Love didn't meet the expectations. Slowly what I did was start journaling and the words started cre...

Moving Forward

Greetings to All,       It has been a gap since I last blogged but I wanted to come back and share my thoughts. A lot has  happened since the last post. In politics, we have a new President and the First Black Female Vice  President. In healthcare, we have as a world been hit with Covid-19 and so many are dying from  complications.  You have so many that are impacted by losing jobs, their shelter, and are on the brink  of losing it all.       You can't turn on the television or look at  social media without seeing states, towns and countries  being shut down and everyone handling it different.  Those who are working from home have a  different level of stress and are triggered by anything because there's no escape.       As we are entering into 2021, we are hoping for new beginnings. It's not like the years prior where  you have a list of goals and resolutions that you ho...

I skipped March

Image
Greetings All, I was asked what happened to my posts for the month of March? My answer was the world shut down! I was excited about my birthday month it was going to be the big double nickel year. I had decided I didn't want a birthday party, I had made arrangements for a custom cake and a family birthday dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. Literally  I had posted about my father's passing 8 days before my birthday many years ago and within 24 hours one of my nieces was rushed to the  hospital almost dying. I fell apart,  I was begging God please don't let her die, and saying she has a son who needs her. I am older , never married and no kids if anyone can go let it be me and let her live! God's plan is not my plans and I can't bargain with him. So she got better, my birthday party was  canceled, my job sent all of us home to work, and the governor said only come out for gas, groceries  and to the bank.  Th...

Grief

What made me write was the death of my mother! I had so many emotions pinned up that I felt I was in it alone and no one could understand. I took out my journal and the words bled onto the pages. Flooded by tears I went through not just grieving her, I went back to my childhood and memories that I had hid in the back of my mind came forth. I grieved a part of myself that I left in Connecticut, I grieved relationships that were gone, and I grieved a job that was my life. I wrote so much until my family begged me to stopped. I was drowning in my grief and I needed to come back. It was through the ministers at my church that prayed for me, called me,  on occasion had me to come out of the house and talk. Talking through my feeling that I had lost my mother on my watch! I had prepared all appointments, I had taken her to the doctors, and yet I was caught off guard. She had Alzheimer's, I remember the doctor saying if she wants cheesecake let her have it, ...

Fresh Start

Image
Greetings, I took the month of December off for personal reasons. I was purging negativity from my life. I went through my closets and started getting rid of clothing that no longer fit, had worn out it's welcome. I was baking a lot and only wanted a slice but my co-workers enjoyed it. I felt that I was going through a writer's block and the words couldn't come out. It hit me like a brick it was December. It would be the time to reflect on my life and had I grown. It was the time of year where the grieving started again and it had been 12 years since she passed. I felt that the world was going to swallow me up and spit me out and I wasn't  ready! I haven't been going to church where I am able to normally go and get rejuvenated. The silly reason they changed the time , it was only supposed to be for the summer, and it went past that . I was protesting. The only one that I was hurting was myself because I needed the word of encouragement, ...

Finding myself in the Red Mountains

Image
It was in the year 2013 and I was going through a storm. I had taken a demotion at work , transferred closer  to home and was trying to take care of myself. I had started symptoms for high blood pressure, was prediabetic , and my arm couldn’t go above my head. In my dream one morning I was saying I need to do something to wake  the old me back up. I wanted to get back into taken care of myself. I was awaken by a notification on my phone that I felt was a sign. It was an invitation to come to Saint George, Utah to visit a resort called Red Mountain. I responded back that I was interested to take the travel agent rate and explore the experience. Within minutes they responded back and I knew then it was real, not a dream, and the beginning . Within weeks flight is booked , it will be a work trip since I am going to write about the whole experience.  I arrived into Las Vegas and took a shuttle van to Saint George, being stuck between strangers, and I am...
