What a difference a day makes

I always tell people things that stressed me out when I was younger doesn’t phase me now. Recently I  felt excluded from an event and instead of being stressed about it I found a positive thing to do. I booked a trip, took a couple of days off from work, and enjoyed myself.  I was able to unplug from social media, told my family I would contact them when I returned, and didn’t engage with majority of my circle, I made it real simple .  During this time I am able to reflect on my actions, write new goals, and prepare a plan. It also a time where I look at items I was stuck doing and reach out for advice. It’s much clearer for me because there aren’t any distractions.  Also I got my journal out and started making goals for 2020 for new ventures, ways to invest into myself, and enroll into courses that increase my knowledge because that is something no one can take from me.  I have had staycations and mini vacations and they all do the same for me. It help...

What Brings You Joy?

Image
When I was a youngster I was always drawing pictures of models, sewing by hand or sewing machine and writing poetry. It was what excited me into knowing at a young age I had the creative bug. I was always looking for courses for sewing, altering clothing that needed another life, and even took up needlepoint because I loved the designs. My mother one day took an interest in my drawings and showed me how she would draw it and it was then I realized that I got it from her. She loved to draw and wanted to sew but didn’t have time because she had six children to raise. Her love for fashion had me subscribing to fashion magazines, ordering clothes and shoes, and sewing. I loved it so much that I changed from college prep in high school to business so that I could get my first job in a department store; I completed a school project on owning a shoe store, and enrolled in a modeling school.  While in college I changed my major from business administration to Fashi...

Why I don’t put up a Christmas Tree?

Image
I stopped putting up a Christmas tree the year after my mother passed. Christmas was her favorite holiday, it was went she knew all her children were going to come home or call her. She was busy cooking in the kitchen all of our favorite dishes, making sure the house was decorated and the tree was lit. I had taken my mother to the hospital for what we thought was going to be something simple, she would get medication and come home. I had ordered her gifts that were under the tree, I had thought she must have pneumonia because they are keeping her. She would be home in time for Christmas and what we learned was she wasn’t coming home this trip but she was dying.  As a caregiver you’re so focused on the love one that you have their schedule memorized, have the doctor’s phone numbers programmed into the phone, and you’re on alert. I had no control over this situation and it felt like it was in warp speed. When the dust settled she was gone, a piece of me was lai...
