I skipped March

Image
Greetings All, I was asked what happened to my posts for the month of March? My answer was the world shut down! I was excited about my birthday month it was going to be the big double nickel year. I had decided I didn't want a birthday party, I had made arrangements for a custom cake and a family birthday dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. Literally  I had posted about my father's passing 8 days before my birthday many years ago and within 24 hours one of my nieces was rushed to the  hospital almost dying. I fell apart,  I was begging God please don't let her die, and saying she has a son who needs her. I am older , never married and no kids if anyone can go let it be me and let her live! God's plan is not my plans and I can't bargain with him. So she got better, my birthday party was  canceled, my job sent all of us home to work, and the governor said only come out for gas, groceries  and to the bank.  Th...

Why I don’t put up a Christmas Tree?

Image
I stopped putting up a Christmas tree the year after my mother passed. Christmas was her favorite holiday, it was went she knew all her children were going to come home or call her. She was busy cooking in the kitchen all of our favorite dishes, making sure the house was decorated and the tree was lit. I had taken my mother to the hospital for what we thought was going to be something simple, she would get medication and come home. I had ordered her gifts that were under the tree, I had thought she must have pneumonia because they are keeping her. She would be home in time for Christmas and what we learned was she wasn’t coming home this trip but she was dying.  As a caregiver you’re so focused on the love one that you have their schedule memorized, have the doctor’s phone numbers programmed into the phone, and you’re on alert. I had no control over this situation and it felt like it was in warp speed. When the dust settled she was gone, a piece of me was lai...

A Sister's Love

A Sister's Love Growing up I was the youngest of 13 siblings. I had one in particular who took the role at the age of 11 to be the Second Momma. She would babysit me, as she got older her job was to make sure I ate, bathe and did my homework. She was a teenager and I did everything that she did. She applied Noxzema to her face for teenage acne well here I am right behind her when she went to school putting it on my face. She would put ketchup on her collard greens well here I go doing the same thing again. When she started dating her boyfriend who is now her husband I was scared that our relationship would change. On her wedding day my nose was bleeding because I was afraid my sister was going to leave me forever. Our relationship didn't change if anything I was calling her to talk on the phone like she was next store, when I could I was taking the bus to spend weekends with her until I learned to drive. She later moved to California and when I was in my ...
