Leaving your comfort zone?

Image
There's a  time when you have outgrown your situation.  Some will stretch themselves and leave the comfort zone. It's a scary feeling.  I remember I worked at a job I didn't enjoy, my elderly parent had shared that he wasn't going to always be there to support me and I felt it was time to stretch but didn't know where to begin.  It was during a trip to California for my niece's graduation that I felt a calling to move. Sounds strange but my mantra at the time was " I look to the hills from where my strength comes and my strength comes from the Lord. ".  I said to one of my sisters I wanted to move here but  I didn't know where to begin. She said if you move here you can stay with me. Then she said let me set up an interview with my boss. Three months later I was leaving for California with 2 suitcases, place to stay ,a new job and a dream to make it.  Over the years I have met so many people, learning from each one and constantly stretching myself ...

Sisterhood

Image
Sisterhood Tomorrow marks Women's International Day and celebrating Women. From all walks of life that have made an imprint on history! I celebrate women who have given birth to new generations to come. The legacy couldn't continue without  you! I celebrate those who were activists for change so that we could vote, we could work and we could be  counted! I celebrate women who were inventors, politicians and educators  I celebrate women who took a chance and stepped out to be the first to get an education in their  families.  I celebrate the women who were told no and found a way to make it a yes to get the dream a reality! When we step back and look at all the accomplishments we women have made in history its to be  celebrated.  I also want to say to the new generation of young women following in our footsteps don't let us down. Keep moving forward and lift your fellow sister up. Don't let envy get into your vision because it  will get off ...

What A Difference A Day Makes

Image
By: Patricia A. Saunders Years ago I was writing a poem for one of my books and the song came to me "What A Difference A Day  Makes". I was overwhelmed with emotions because on that day I listened to the words fully. " What a difference a day makes Twenty-four little hours Brought the sun and the flowers Where there used to be rain My yesterday was blue, dear Today I'm a part of you, dear My lonely nights are through, dear Since you said you were mine" As we prepare to end the first month of 2021 and are going into February. I am wishing for those that  are single and during the pandemic your dating life has been either paused or altered that you find love.  I love interviewing both men and women on what they are looking for in a relationship. Speaking to  all generations, those that have been married, are married and some that never want to be married.  The common thread is everyone says  they wanted love from a partner, spouse and or friend that in...

How is it working for you now?

Image
The beginning of the year everyone started making their vision boards, making resolutions of what they  were going to do different or start, and writing down goals. The month is almost at an end and I wonder how is it working for you now? Have you kept it up? Have you partnered with someone to hold you accountable?  The reason why this sticks to the paper it because like most of us we have good intentions of what we envision the plan to be. What we do is get bored, discouraged or worse forget what we were  supposed to be doing until someone reminds us. " Hey I thought you were on a diet?" So for February let's plan a restart if you're you off track. Tell one person who you trust to  hold you accountable. Do the check in daily, weekly or bi weekly whatever you both agree to. I know for myself that last year I found that with being confined to the home because of "Shelter  In Place", I wasn't walking my usual steps. At work I was doing my daily 10,000 st...

Breaking the Glass Ceiling

Image
There has been so many that have come before us. So many have gotten to a certain level and stopped.  This year feels different more than before for many reasons. It's only 18 days into the month but it feels  like its been years. Today marks Martin Luther King Jr, birthday and we are also two days away from our inauguration of  President Elect Joe Biden and the first Black Female Vice President. Vice President Kamala Harris who  broke through the glass ceiling . Let me explain why it is so monumental to me. As a African American female with an advanced degree I  have worked in corporate america for many years. I have networked, mentored and gone for many  senior level  management positions. I had sat in management meetings where later debriefed on my facial  expressions, suggested an idea that was overlooked for someone else to paraphrase what I said and it is credited to the other employee.  I have been told I challenged others, that I shou...

Closing the door

Image
So I have been going back and forth with my feelings on this subject. I am a African American Woman  that was born in a small town in Connecticut. Prominently the population was Caucasian, African  American, Puerto Rican and Indian. I grew up in a middle class neighborhood where I was beat up daily  by 3 little white boys from the time I was able to go outside to play solo until I was jumped on my front  porch and my mother told me it was okay to fight back .  We moved to an exclusive neighborhood where we were the only Blacks and some neighbors didn't take  to kind to their new neighbors. This neighborhood was where doctors, lawyers and other business owners  lived. My mother later shared that the house we had brought was directly across the street from where she  was once a maid for the owners. Two doors down from us was a man who didn't like Blacks and had a black dog trained to attack Blacks. So picture a eight year old little girl was ...

Moving Forward

Image
Greetings to All,       It has been a gap since I last blogged but I wanted to come back and share my thoughts. A lot has  happened since the last post. In politics, we have a new President and the First Black Female Vice  President. In healthcare, we have as a world been hit with Covid-19 and so many are dying from  complications.  You have so many that are impacted by losing jobs, their shelter, and are on the brink  of losing it all.       You can't turn on the television or look at  social media without seeing states, towns and countries  being shut down and everyone handling it different.  Those who are working from home have a  different level of stress and are triggered by anything because there's no escape.       As we are entering into 2021, we are hoping for new beginnings. It's not like the years prior where  you have a list of goals and resolutions that you ho...
