Love Don't Live Here Anymore
Love Don’t Live Here
Anymore
That used to be my
favorite song sitting in my car, driving with the window down, and repeating
each word like it was written just for me. As Valentine’s Day is approaching
and I realized that you’re gone.
Thinking about the cards, candy and flowers that I received each year.
Each year after you
died unexpectedly I had to come to grips that I wouldn’t send you another card.
I thought about the year I placed my order through ProFlower © for 3 dozen
roses for my Mother. I called her
expecting to hear the excitement instead I heard disappointment because they
were wilted. I placed another call for them to make it right and another 3
dozen arrived. She finally said send me the money and I will go to the grocery
store because wherever you’re getting your roses they aren’t fresh. Now I am disappointed and I place the third
call this time I spoke with a supervisor and express my experience. They
understood, showed empathy and this time this was the best three dozen roses my
Mother ever received. In her small one bedroom apartment she was surrounded by
all the roses. They were in the kitchen, bedroom, living room, and even the
bathroom. I treasured that moment and tucked it into my memory.
I stopped sending my
friends and family cards for Valentine’s Day for a moment and just started. I
settled with not getting the recognition from my lover and started putting the
wall up. Love doesn’t live here anymore.
It’s just a fantasy!
Until the ice wall
that was protecting my heart was broken. The peace I was looking for landed at
my door. I looked into the mirror and I saw the person looking back at me. I
didn’t recognize the person I became. I was all about work, settling for
treatment I didn’t deserve and realized that I wasn’t by myself. Speaking to
both men and women who felt that they weren’t worthy and that it was too late.
That love had missed their address and wasn’t going to knock on the door. I woke
up and said it’s a new day!
So for those who are
approaching this Valentine’s Day look at it as a day to
1. Buy your own flowers
2. Take yourself to dinner
3. Coordinate a dinner out with your friends and
dress up
4. Schedule that spa day
5. Show someone else love
6. Visit the elderly
7. That special person you have a crush on don’t
wait! Tell them.
8. Love on the person who is most important! You!
I am wishing each of
you a Happy Valentine’s Day because when all else fails, when they walk out the
door, and you feel alone just remember someone loves you more. Just look up! Love lives inside of you
